Michael Olise's stunning free kick against Manchester United named the best Premier League goal in January
Michael Olise has won the Premier League Goal of the Month award for January for his superb free-kick in the 1-1 draw with Manchester United.
Olise scored the free kick in additional time for Crystal Palace to make it 1-1 against Manchester United on January 18.
The injury-time effort was selected by a combination of supporters’ votes and a panel of experts as the league's outstanding strike of the month as announced on the official Premier League twitter handle.
Olise wins Goal of the month award
The Olise announcement comes at the same time as Premier League accolades for January were being handed out including Player and Manager of the month won by Marcus Rashford and Mikel Arteta respectively.
Olise’s goal was chosen ahead of efforts by Daniel Podence (for Wolves against Aston Villa); Solly March and Danny Welbeck (for Brighton versus Liverpool); Kaoru Mitoma (for Brighton against Leicester); Marcus Rashford and Bukayo Saka (in Manchester United versus Arsenal); and Harry Kane (for Tottenham against Fulham).
With his side trailing going into additional time at Selhurst Park, Olise stepped up to the mark to deliver an inch-perfect free-kick from close to 30 yards out, high past David De Gea and in off the underside of the bar, to secure his side a well-deserved point.
Olise becomes the fourth Crystal Palace to win the award after Andros Townsend twice for his efforts against West Bromwich Albion (in March 2017) and Manchester City (December 2018), and Wilfried Zaha secured the prize for his goal versus Norwich City (February 2022).
