Harambee Stars captain Michael Olunga continued to showcase his goal scoring prowess as he outscored African stars such as Sadio Mane and Victor Boniface in 2023-24.
Harambee Stars captain Michael Olunga may have had a disappointing season with Al Duhail but he still managed to do his job, scoring goals which put him ahead of some esteemed forwards in Africa.
Olunga, who won a treble in 2022-23, ended the 2023-24 campaign empty-handed with his last hope for silverware going up in smoke last weekend when Al Duhail lost 1-0 to Al Sadd in the Emir Cup semi-final.
However, the 30-year-old ended the season with an impressive 28 goals and three assists in all competitions, this coming from 32 games in all competitions.

Michael Olunga drops major transfer hint after disappointing end to the season
Harambee Stars captain Michael Olunga has sparked transfer speculation with his latest social media post after a poor end to the season with Qatari club Al Duhail.
Olunga’s tally saw him rank fifth among the highest scorers from Africa in 2023-24. Serhou Guirassy from Guinea, who bagged 31 goals and provided two assists for Bundesliga side Stuttgart, who managed an incredible second place to qualify for the Champions League for the first time, coming top.
Liverpool and Egyptian forward Mohamed Salah came second with 30 goals and 17 assists in 50 games with Gabon striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang managing a similar tally of goals but with 11 assists in 52 games for French club Marseille.
Moroccan forward Abderrazak Hamdallah, who plays for Saudi Pro League side Al-Ittihad, scored one more goal than Olunga, managing 29 and four assists in 38 games.
Olunga beat Senegal superstar Sadio Mane of Saudi club Al-Nassr, the former Liverpool and Bayern Munich star bagging 25 goals and 15 assists in 54 games, with Congolese Simon Banza of French club Creil and his Moroccan counterpart Youssef En-Nesyri of Sevilla, both scoring 23 goals.
Ghana’s Mohammed Kudus, who was a revelation in his first season with West Ham, and Nigeria’s Victor Boniface, who won the Bundesliga crown with Bayer Leverkusen, both managing 21 goals in the just-concluded season.
With 28 goals in 32 games, Olunga was the most efficient of all the top scorers from Africa given he played the least games, and should have been higher up the list had he not been out for over two months with a knee injury between December and February.
