Harambee Stars captain Michael Olunga will be playing alongside another ex-Liverpool player after Spanish midfielder Luis Alberto ditched Lazio for Al Duhail.

Harambee Stars captain Michael Olunga will play alongside former Liverpool midfielder Luis Alberto who has joined Al Duhail from Italian side Lazio.

Alberto has officially transferred from the Serie A club to the Qatari club in a deal worth approximately €10 million, including bonuses.

This move follows the player's public demand for a transfer, declaring on live television that his eight-year tenure at the Italian club had come to an end.

Despite initially holding out for a €20 million offer, Lazio conceded and finalised the transfer on Tuesday. Alberto had already completed his medical examination for Al-Duhail last week, solidifying the move.

“The club's management has succeeded in completing contract negotiations with Spanish player Luis Alberto, star of the Italian club Lazio, will join the team starting in the new season,” Al Duhail said via a statement on the club’s website.

“The player, born in 1992, arrived in Doha in the early hours of yesterday morning and succeeded in passing the medical examination at Aspetar Hospital.

“The contract with the player comes within the framework of strengthening the team with distinguished elements before the start of the preparation period at the beginning of next July.”

A notable aspect of the deal involves Liverpool, Alberto's former club, which sold him to Lazio for €4 million in the summer of 2016.

Due to a clause in the original transfer agreement, Liverpool is entitled to 12 per cent of the sale proceeds, netting the Reds approximately €1.2 million from this transfer.

Alberto, who had recently extended his contract with Lazio until June 2027, leaves behind a significant legacy.

During his time with the Biancocelesti, he scored 52 goals in 307 appearances and helped the team secure two Supercoppa Italiana titles and one Coppa Italia trophy.
