Harambee Stars striker Michael Olunga has hit back at a fan who told him to ‘stop wearing mtumba’.
Mitumbas are second-hand clothes that are famous in low-income and middle-income communities in the country.
Going by his posts on social media, Olunga is enjoying his vacation in Europe. For the past six days, the Al Duhail SC star has been posting captivating photos while visiting cities across Europe.
But it is his dressing style that always draws praise or criticism.
One fan, who was seemingly not impressed with Olunga’s outfit, told the footballer to stop doing mitumba.
"Wachana na mtumba ukiwa majuu bana. [Do not wear mtumba when in Europe]," Odawa Jay Jay, told the former Gor Mahia star.
Olunga was not kind in his response; "Ukizoea mtumba sana unaona kila nguo inakaa mtumba. [If you are used to mtumba, you think every clothe is a mtumba]," Olunga replied.
Another fan told him to dress like a rich man and this also attracted a response from the former Girona forward.
"Wewe ni tajiri bana, dress like a rich man, don't glorify umaskini. [You are a rich man, dress like one. Do not glorify poverty]," James Kirimi told the footballer.
Meanwhile, Olunga is expected to be part of the Harambee Stars team that will be involved in a four-nation tournament in June.
Other participants in the tournament are Djibouti, Pakistan and Mauritius.
