A lack of a certified facility saw FUFA take the Cranes to Ismailia in Egypt where the team lost their Group F matchday three encounter with Tanzania.
Uganda Cranes coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic has urged the government to speed up the works at Namboole ahead of Uganda Cranes’ crucial AFCON 2023 qualifier against Algeria.
A lack of a certified facility saw FUFA take the Cranes to Ismailia in Egypt where the team lost their Group F matchday three encounter with Tanzania.
“When it was very bad in Egypt because it’s not very easy to play from a neutral ground,” Micho said after Uganda beat Tanzania to revive their hopes of qualifying for the Ivory Coast finals next year.
KCCA forward Rogers Mato was the hero of the day in dar Es Salaam, Tanzania after running through to fire in from a Farouk Miya crystal-crisp pass inside added time.
Spiritual home
Uganda is now tied on statistics with their East African neighbor and will need to be on top of their game against Algeria and Niger if they’re to qualify.
First, the team faces an uphill task against Algeria in June in a home match. Micho has sent his rallying call so that the team can host the Fennec Foxes at Namboole.
“We have it in mind that Algeria won all their four matches, we’ve same number of points and goal difference as Tanzania who have Niger to play here [Dar Es Salaam] as we host Algeria. We pray that our government will succeed in refurbishing Namboole because it’s our spiritual home,” he said.
According to the contractors, the UPDF Engineering Brigade, the stadium will be completed by June and handed over back to its managers. That timeline might need to be relooked to beat CAF’s deadline for inspections.
