)
The 1-1 draw with Manchester United on Sunday proved to be the final straw that broke the camel's back. The Gunners were expected to challenge Liverpool for this season's English Premier League title but their hopes were dashed in Manchester.

With 10 matches left to play, the Gunners find themselves 15 points adrift of leaders Liverpool, who look destined to win the trophy. There were high hopes at the start of the season that this could be Arsenal's year of redemption but that looks like a pipedream at this point.
Arsenal last won the Premier League in 2003-04 and it was truly a special season, not just for the club but English football as a whole. The Gunners registered 26 wins and 12 draws to go through the season undefeated and won the title by 11 points. After five solid years at the club, Arteta might find himself on the chopping board.
2. Defensive obsession
)
The Gunners are no longer an exciting team to watch since the departure of Arsene Wenger. In his early days with Arsenal, Arteta set up the team to play sexy, entertaining football but the last two seasons has seen the former Everton player take a cautious approach, irrespective o the oppoosition.

The 2-2 draw against Man City early this season, following the red card to Leandro Trossard saw Arsenal play more than 65 minutes with 11 men behind the ball. Arteta has failed to find away to balance defending and attacking without becoming boring and the lack of a winning mentalirty further amplies this. Recently, Arsenal was compared to Stoke City because of their defensive approach and priority on set pieces.
3. No return on investment
)
Since Arteta was appointed Arsenal boss, the club have spent just shy of £600million. Before the start of the 2024 summer transfer window, the Spaniard had spent £545m on players. With the addition of Riccardo Calafiori, that figure now sits at around £577m. This season alone, Arsenal spent €108.90m to capture Calafiori, David Raya and Mikel Merino.
The board might feel that their investment is not translated into trophies. Winning Cup trophies will never be considered a success in English football.
