Arteta has provided a worrying update on the status of his captain's injury status which will not be good news for their title challenge, especially with Manchester City on the horizon.

As Arsenal prepares for a pivotal clash against Manchester City this weekend, manager Mikel Arteta has delivered worrying news regarding the fitness of captain Martin Ødegaard.

The Norwegian midfielder, who has been instrumental for the Gunners, will miss the highly anticipated match at the Etihad Stadium due to a significant ankle injury sustained during international duty.

Arteta provided updates following scans that revealed damage to one of Ødegaard’s ankle ligaments. “We’re going to miss him,” Arteta stated, expressing his disappointment. “After everything was scanned, they showed there was some damage, especially in one of the ligaments in the ankle. I don’t want to put a timeframe on it, but it’s something quite significant, so we’re going to lose him for a while—hopefully not months, but let’s see.”

Ødegaard’s absence is a considerable setback for Arsenal, especially given his crucial role in orchestrating the team's attacking play.

The Gunners secured a narrow 1-0 victory against Tottenham last weekend, but facing the reigning champions without their captain poses a formidable challenge.

However, there is a silver lining for Arsenal as Arteta confirmed that Bukayo Saka, who left the North London Derby limping, was able to participate in training and is available for selection.

Additionally, Declan Rice will return from suspension, providing a much-needed boost to the squad.

Arsenal has had its fair share of injury woes this season, losing not only Ødegaard but also new signing Mikel Merino, further straining their midfield options.

Despite these challenges, the Gunners remain unbeaten, having amassed ten points from their first four matches.

With the title race heating up, this weekend’s encounter with Manchester City is set to be a critical test for Arteta and his squad.
