Haaland's goalscoring streak does not intimidate Arsenal - Jorginho
The Gunners midfield man is unfazed by the Manchester City striker’s form going into Sunday’s top-of-the-table showdown.
Erling Haaland: Most prolific active striker
Haaland’s debut season in the Premier League saw the most abundant goal output for any striker in the competition’s history (36). He also helped Manchester City win the treble; however, he was criticised for not scoring in the advanced stages of the competition, despite City's triumph.
The criticisms were levelled against him last season as well, as he was kept quiet over two legs by Real Madrid as they knocked Manchester City out of the Champions League.
Haaland won the Golden Boot in the Premier League last season as well and is on course to win a third consecutive one, as he has scored nine goals in four in the English top flight.
However, the criticisms of his performance in big games have not vanished, with Chelsea legend Mikel highlighting it recently.
What Mikel said
Ahead of Manchester City's UCL clash against Inter Milan, Mikel, who won the competition with Chelsea in 2012, stressed the need for Haaland to stand replicate his goal-scoring ratio in high-profile matches.
Speaking as a pundit in Bein Sport’s coverage of the competition, the 38-year-old charged Haaland to step up as the likes of Messi did against tougher opponents.
“Right now, he hasn't,” Mikel said about Haaland performing in big matches. “We can agree on that right now. He hasn't. He scored goals, so many goals. But in the big games, I want to see him do that again on Sunday when they play Arsenal.
“I want to see him show up in big games and be the man score one or two hat trick, whatever it is.
“But again, what I'm saying again this season, I think his general play has become much better than it was last season. So I want to see him on Sunday, show up in the big games, which is what Messi did.”
