Milan's miraculous recoveries: Chukwueze's unsung role under Conceicao

Detailing how peripheral Samuel Chukwueze has contributed to incredible AC Milan comebacks under Sergio Conceicao.

Samuel Chukwueze has failed to come off the bench in consecutive Serie A wins for AC Milan over Lecce (3-2) and Como (2-1), matches that followed similar patterns of Sergio Conceicao's troops requiring comebacks to secure the points.

Looking further, the Nigerian has been an unused substitute in five of nine top-flight matches since returning from a hamstring injury in January, highlighting his bit-part role under the former Porto boss.

Nevertheless, the Nigerian has contributed to Conceicao's men’s accruing the second-most points from losing positions under the Portuguese manager.

Highlighting Chukwueze’s part in Milan’s comebacks

Since the turn of the year, only Bologna (15 ) have accumulated more points from losing positions in Serie A than Milan, who have notched 12 from such situations in 2025.

The Rossoneri needed turnarounds against Como and Parma in January before recent comebacks against Lecce, against whom they trailed 2-0, and Cesc Fabregas' men again in Saturday's 2-1 victory.

Although Chukwueze has barely played under Conceicao, the Nigerian was instrumental in the second success during the ongoing run, scoring a late winner in the 3-2 success over Parma on January 26, a game which Milan twice trailed before claiming the victory.

What next for Milan?

Milan stayed ninth despite round 29's win over Como, with the Rossoneri four points behind sixth-placed Lazio in the race for European participation in 2025-26.

Conceicao's men travel to title-contending Napoli on March 30 following the international break.
