The NPFL newbies Sporting Lagos remain without a win this season on the road after a potentially damaging defeat against Rivers United.

Newcomers Sporting Lagos have suffered their worst defeat in the Nigerian Premier Football League, NPFL, history, falling 4-1 to Rivers United in a one-sided affair in Port Harcourt.

The Tech Boys, still searching for their first away win of the season, were blown away by the attacking prowess of the former league champions, with Andy Okpe leading the charge for the home side.

It was Rivers United who drew first blood, with Nwangwa Nyima opening the scoring for the home side with a good finish just before the half-hour mark.

However, Sporting Lagos managed to equalise before the break, as Tobechukwu converted a penalty to level the scores at the interval.

But the second half belonged entirely to Rivers United, as Okpe took the game by the scruff of the neck, bagging a brilliant brace to put the result beyond doubt.

Any hopes the visitors had for a fightback was completely shut down when Seiye Jackson added a fourth late on to cap a miserable outing for Sporting Lagos.

The defeat marks the heaviest loss ever suffered by Sporting Lagos in the NPFL, coming under the guidance of new boss Abdullahi Biffo

The result has also seen the Tech Boys drop perilously close to the relegation zone, sitting just one point above the danger area.
