As Pulse Sports has reported, the Blaugrana have identified the Basque winger as their primary target for the transfer window and are pulling all the stops to land him.

They are currently in negotiations with the player's agent over his wages and are waiting for him to agree on personal terms to trigger his release clause.

Williams’ release clause was marked at €58 million, a fee Barcelona are happy to pay, as well as Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain; however, that figure is set to change.

According to a report from Mundo Deportivo, the stated release clause on the Spanish winger's contract is set to increase.

Per the report, the release clause is subject to the Consumer Price Index. CPI is used to measure inflation, and certain release clauses are indexed to inflation, meaning a rise in inflation will see the fee in the clause increase.

Williams's contract with Athletic Club is seemingly of this nature, as MD projected his release clause to climb up to €62 million. However, despite their financial situation, Barcelona are not expected to struggle with this increase, as they are insistent on landing their man.

Meanwhile, Barcelona forward Ferran Torres has given clarity on his future at the club for the upcoming season.

Ferran Torres has reiterated his commitment to staying at Barcelona beyond the summer, warning interested clubs not to waste their time.
