According to the FIFA February Rankings, Morocco, Senegal, Tunisia, Algeria and Egypt are the best national teams.

Morocco has maintained the top spot in the African continent and 11th globally, according to the latest FIFA Rankings.

The Atlas Lions made history when they fought against all odds to become the first African country to reach the semifinals of the FIFA World Cup in Qatar last year.

The run took the 1976 African Champions to 11th worldwide in the December FIFA Rankings.

Morocco capped that performance with another historic achievement when they beat Brazil 2-1 in an international friendly last month in Tangier.

Reigning African champions Senegal follow closely in 18th as Tunisia, Algeria and Egypt close Africa’s top five inside the top 40 in the world.

Lions fall

Central African Republic made the biggest leap both by points and places after adding 28.72 points to climb ten places to 122.

CAR put a sterling performance in the recent matchdays three and four of 2023 to beat Madagascar home and away to improve their chances of qualifying for the finals.

The result sent the from bottom to second in Group E with seven points, one behind leaders Ghana.

The AFCON qualifiers also punched holes in some of the big nations, with Cameroon the worst hit after gifting Namibia four points.

According to FIFA, the two results caused Cameroon to lose 29.09 points, thereby dropping nine places, the worst performance by any nation.
