Moses Simon scored a spectacular goal in the 14th minute before being replaced by Egypt international Mostafa Mohamed late in the game.

Nigerian winger Moses Simon scored his first goal of the season as Nantes secured a 2-0 victory over Auxerre in their Ligue 1 match on Sunday.

The 29-year-old forward missed a large chunk of last season due to injury, and scoring his first goal since returning from the treatment table would be some good news for his fans.

Simon, who was replaced by Egypt international Mostafa Mohamed late in the game, curled a brilliant shot into the net in the 14th minute.

Baherba Guirassy added a second goal for Nantes deep into stoppage time to seal a 2-0 victory.

Auxerre, who featured Nigerian defender Gabriel Osho for the full 90 minutes, suffered their first defeat of the season after a 0-0 draw in their opening fixture against Toulouse.

Nantes will now travel to Montpellier for their next league match on Saturday.

Moses Simon set to return for Super Eagles

The Super Eagles star is set to return to the national team squad after missing out on the World Cup qualifiers against Benin Republic and South Africa due to injury.

Well done, Moses Simon.

Moses Simon suffered a season-ending broken leg on March 30th, preventing him from playing for FC Nantes for the remainder of the season.

Despite suffering a season-ending injury in March, Moses Simon made a significant contribution to FC Nantes during the 2022-2023 season. Before his injury, Simon featured in 22 league games, scoring three goals and providing five assists.

His impressive performances helped Nantes secure a 14th-place finish in Ligue 1, just four points above the relegation zone.

Simon was also a key player for the Super Eagles at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations. He started five of Nigeria's seven games and appeared as a substitute in the other two.
