Jose Mourinho fired at Tottenham in his praise of Harry Kane ahead of the European Championships.

Fenerbahce boss Jose Mourinho was full of praise for England’s captain Harry Kane, and he took the opportunity to swipe at his former employers at Tottenham Hotspur.

Mourinho was the manager of the North London side from November 2019 until April 2021, when he was controversially fired days before the EFL Cup final against Manchester City.

What Mourinho said

Speaking ahead of the European Championships, Jose lauded England's star man, Kane, highlighting his quality in glowing remarks.

However, he pointed out the blip in Kane's career—his lack of a trophy—and boasted that would not be the case if Tottenham did not fire him.

The 61-year-old led Spurs to the EFL Cup final but could not see them to the promised land, as he was fired days before the clash against Manchester City. Tottenham had a run of bad results leading up to the sack. They were knocked out of the FA Cup and Europa League and were also lagging which led to the Portuguese’s sack, despite the promise of silverware only days away.

Tottenham, led by interim manager Ryan Mason, went on to lose the final to Guardiola City, and Mourinho insists he would have won had he stayed in charge.

“Kane has scored goals for Tottenham, England, and I had no doubts that he would score goals for Bayern,” Mourinho said, according to the Mirror

"Harry is a fantastic, complete player who scores goals from all over the pitch but isn't selfish—he assists, drops deep, builds play, presses, defends.

“The only thing he is missing is to win a trophy. He was my player at Tottenham, and I was going to win one with him, but I was sacked six days before the final.”

Meanwhile, Mourinho believes that neither France, Spain, England, nor Germany are better than Portugal heading into the European Championships.
