Give us Mourinho! Chelsea fans beg for 'Special One' after latest defeat
Some Chelsea fans have asked for Mauricio Pochettino to be replaced with Jose Mourinho after the Blues' latest defeat, to Aston Villa.
There were four separate scorers for Genoa as Albert Gudmundsson, Mateo Retegui, Morten Thorsbey, and Junior Messias put Roma to the sword.
How it happened
Coming off the back of a disappointing 1-1 draw against Torino where Roma threw away three points after conceding a late equaliser, the Gialorossi decided to flip the script this time around by letting in an early goal.
They were behind after only four minutes and 20 seconds, as Gudmundsson struck to score Genoa’s earliest Serie A goal since 2017 and give the home side an early lead.
Roma managed to grab an equaliser after 22 minutes when Diego Llorente’s cross found fellow centre-back Brian Cristante, who pulled the visitors level at 1-1.
Things turned sour for Roma as they conceded at the end of the first half as well when Thorsbey picked out Retegui to double the host’s lead.
The halftime break served as a reprieve for Roma, who came out guns blazing trying to force a reverse of the scoreline; however, things did not go according to plan for the Gialorossi.
They were unable to find the back of the net, and instead, had to watch Genoa increase their lead through Thorsbey before substitute Messias put the final nail in their coffin with a fourth goal in the 81st minute.
The defeat leaves Roma with only one victory from six games, with the capital club now occupying 16th position on the Serie A log.
They will need to improve significantly on their current form if they are to reach their goal of qualifying for the UEFA Champions League through the league route.
