Everton’s managerial hunt is in full swing following Sean Dyche’s dismissal, but fans hoping for Mourinho’s return to the Premier League will be disappointed.
Mourinho ruled out from replacing Dyche
The Special One’s name surged to the top of bookmakers’ odds, sparking excitement among Everton fans.
However, his acrimonious exit from Roma last year ended any chance of him taking over at Goodison Park.
Mourinho’s outspoken criticism of Roma owner Dan Friedkin, who has now become Everton owner, who he said had "little knowledge" of football, made reconciliation impossible.
Currently managing Fenerbahce, Mourinho’s focus remains on his Turkish club, though he’s expressed his desire to return to English football in the future in the past.
Moyes favourite to take Everton job
Attention has turned to former Everton boss David Moyes, who is reportedly in advanced discussions with TFG to take over from Dyche.
Moyes’ 11-year stint at Goodison Park saw the club achieve Champions League qualification and reach an FA Cup final, and the Scottish manager is a legend among Toffees supporters.
After leading West Ham to a UEFA Conference League triumph in 2023, Moyes brings a wealth of experience managing under pressure to relegation-threatened Everton.
Down in 16th-place, Everton will be desperate to better their fortunes after Dyches departure and Moyes could be the man to lead them into a new path under Friedkin’s TFG movement.
