Mourinho advance with Fenerbahce
Unlike their Turkish rivals Galatasaray, who were seen off the competition by Dutch side AZ Alkmaar in the playoff round, Mourinho's Fenerbahce made light work of Anderlecht, beating them 5-2 on aggregate to advance into the round-of-16.
The Yellow Canaries had the tie all but wrapped up in the first leg player in Turkey. They beat the Belgians 3-0, securing a significant advantage going into the second leg.
Anderlecht put on a brave fight in the second fixture but could only manage a 2-2 draw, insufficient to claw back the three-goal deficit.
Mourinho with another record
The triumph over Anderlecht was his 31st in a two-legged European competition knockout tie, the most by any manager in history. However, he shares this record with Real Madrid's Carlo Ancelotti, who also hit 31 following the triumph over Manchester City.
Unlike Ancelotti, however, Mourinho's success is more varied, coming in the Champions League, Europa League and Conference League, three competitions he won.
Meanwhile, Fenerbahce now know their fate in the Europa League knockout stage after the draw earlier today. They will face Rangers in the round of 16, and should they advance, will play either Athletic Club or Mourinho's former club Roma. A date with another former Mourinho team, Manchester United, is also possible in the semi-final, as they are on the same side of the draw.
