PREMIER LEAGUE Revealed: Why Man United's plans to reinstate Mason Greenwood were shelved
United were planning of reinstating Greenwood to the first team set up, but have been forced to withdraw their plans due to one reason.
Roma had been linked to Greenwood before the outcome of Manchester United’s investigation, which decided that the club and player could not continue in their partnership, but have now denied that a move is on the cards for the 21-year-old.
The Serie A side were among a host of clubs that were expected to pounce on the chance to sign the one-time England international, but according to Italian media outlet Il Tempo, I Gialorossi have cooled their interest in the striker after a special request from manager Jose Moutinho.
Roma unwilling to go near Greenwood
Roma were hit with a serious injury to their main centre forward Tammy Abraham, who will not be available for selection until next year and were in the market for a new striker after failing with moves for West Ham’s Gianluca Sccamaca and Atletico Madrid’s Alvaro Morata.
Despite their need for a new signing upfront, Il Tiempo reports that the Gialorossi will not pursue a deal for Greenwood as former Manchester United manager, Mourinho wants to distance himself and the club from the Red Devils’ misfit due to the nature of his departure from the Premier League giants.
Greenwood scored 35 goals in 129 appearances for Manchester United before his planned departure, and will certainly not be short of suitors despite Roma’s rejection.
