As assistant, Mubiru will be in charge of the team for the game and will work with former Crested Cranes star Oliver Mbekeka who joins as the second assistant coach.

Abdallah Mubiru has been appointed as the assistant coach of the Uganda Women's Senior National Football team, ahead of their 2024 the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations Qualifier against Algeria.

Uganda will host Algeria on Wednesday, 20th September 2023 at FUFA Technical Centre, Njeru in the first leg while the return leg will come a week later in Oran.

As assistant, Mubiru will be in charge of the team for the game and will work with former Crested Cranes star Oliver Mbekeka who joins as the second assistant coach.

Stephen Kiggundu will take on the role of goalkeeper trainer.

“Abdallah Mubiru has been appointed as assistant coach of the Uganda Women Senior National Football team with immediate effect as Ayub Khalifan Kiyingi concentrates on the U-20 team going to camp,” FUFA said in a statement.

“Olive Mbekeka also joins the Crested Cranes as second assistant coach while Stephen Kiggundu is goalkeeper trainer.”

Despite his extensive experience in men's football, Mubiru's ability to adapt to this new challenge will be closely observed.

He has previously held key roles in Ugandan football, including managing the men's national team, the Cranes during the qualifiers for the 2020 Africa Nations Championships.

Under his guidance, the Uganda Cranes secured their place in the finals of the tournament.

He was also assistant to Johnathan McKinstry when the latter was appointed as the head coach of the Uganda Cranes.

Mubiru was also in charge of the Cranes on interim basis after McKinstry left, handling the last two qualifying matches of the 2020 AFCON qualifiers and a friendly against South Africa.

The former Proline, KCCA, Vipers, and Police coach has been without a coaching job since concluding his tenure with Tanzanian club Mbeya City at the end of the previous season.

Mubiru is expected to join the team in camp at the FUFA Technical Centre in Njeru as they continue their preparations for the qualifier.
