Simon Peter Mugerwa has asked for a concerted effort from Police FC players and management if they’re to achieve their target of earning promotion to the StarTimes Uganda Premier League.
Mugerwa was unveiled officially on Tuesday as the Cops' new head coach for the next two years, with his immediate task to guide the team back to the top flight.
Police was relegated to the FUFA Big League after falling short in the 2021/22 Uganda Premier League season and were close to earning an instant promotion last season but faltered towards the end.

AWCON 2024 Algeria beat Uganda to take first leg advantage in the 2023 Africa Women's Cup of Nations qualifier
Fauzia Najjemba's goal was not enough as Uganda Crested Cranes lost 2-1 to Algeria in the 2023 Africa Women's Cup of Nations first round qualifier.
The coach has largely been involved as an assistant coach for SC Villa and Soltilo Bright Stars, Masaza Cup and Buddo SS in the schools’ competition but says he is ready to step up the ladder.
But to do this, he has asked for cooperation from his players and club management as he takes over from long-serving tactician Angelo Lonyesi.
“Police is a club that belongs to the top-flight, so our job is to take it back there,” Mugerwa said after the confirmation.
He added: “The target is hard, but we have to work hand in hand with the players and management to achieve the target. We added some experienced players who are motivated to take the team to the Uganda Premier League, where some have played before.”
The coach has been working with the club since the end of last season and has been involved in the whole recruitment and preseason exercise.
