Uganda striker, Steven Mukwala was among the few shinning lights from a troubled season, and he remains a critical piece in the Kotoko set up as they embark on the 2023/24 campaign.

The pride of Kumasi, Asante Kotoko, has always been a force to reckon with in Ghanian and African football, but the club has not been at its conquering best in recent times.

Kotoko has won only two league titles in the last seven years, and while their last Ghana Premier League crown was during the 2021/22 season, they finished a distant fourth last season, eight points behind champions Medeama.

The chaos last season also saw a change in the club’s leadership, with an interim committee was instated to steer the club after financial reports revealed a deep running mismanagement of the club’s resources.

Prosper Narteh Ogum returns to the club as part of the four-member Interim Management Committee (IMC) has evidently infused fresh energy and perspective.

Uganda striker Steven Mukwala was among the few shinning lights from a troubled season, and he remains a critical piece in the Kotoko set up as they embark on the 2023/24 campaign.

Ending his maiden campaign as the club's top scorer, expectations from him are naturally high.

Yet, it's not just about Mukwala. The entire squad seems to be operating on an elevated plane, impressing the Ghanian legend and technical director, Kwesi Appiah.

And if the words of the club's technical director are any indication, the Porcupine Warriors are in excellent shape and raring to go.

Having observed the team's preparations, Appiah couldn't contain his admiration for the players' gusto during the drills.

Appiah said, "I have seen the aggressiveness during the training and I am impressed."

But for him, training is just one side of the coin. Appiah is keen on ensuring this aggression and dedication doesn't remain confined to practice.

"However, we are looking forward to seeing it in matches. We have total belief in you, and we hope that you end the season very well," he added.

The Kumasi giants continue preparations to face Heart of Lions in their Ghana Premier League opener at the Baba Yara Stadium on September 16, 2023.

To bolster the team's prospects, Asante Kotoko hasn't shied away from injecting new blood into the squad.

Recent additions like Andrews Ntim, Nanabayin Amoah, and Yahaya Dawuni are slated to play pivotal roles, enhancing the team's firepower and solidity.
