The Murang’a Seal coach has described Gor Mahia as a “yesteryear club” whose fans behaved in a very inappropriate manner by attacking his “young” charges.

Murang’a Seal head coach Gabriel Njoroge has aimed a huge dig at Gor Mahia supporters after the match between both sides ended in a 0-0 draw at the Kasarani Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Gor Mahia huffed and puffed but could not find a way to break down the Seal defence, who put men behind the ball and defended with all their might and grit.

The game however, was overshadowed by controversial refereeing decisions made by the officials on the day, which got Gor Mahia fans livid before a couple stormed into the pitch as if to try and attack the officials.

This opened the floodgates for chaotic scenes within the stadium, as police had to use rubber bullets and tear gas to chase away the crowd from the stadium.

Missiles were then launced by the fans, who went as far as to uproot some of the seats in the stadium’s North Stand, causing damages worth millions of shillings.

Speaking to the media after the match, Njoroge described Gor Mahia as a “yesteryear club” whose fans behaved in a very inappropriate manner by attacking his “young” charges.

“I think Gor Mahia is a yesteryear club,” Njoroge said. “They are an old club that has been in this league and have been champions several times,” he added.

“We are young boys who are still trying to grow. I am trying to nurture these players to get to a level where they can try and compete.

“Gor Mahia’s fans always tend to cause chaos. I do not see it as a big deal given they always do that.”

Meanwhile Njoroge is adamant that the referee did a good job, insisting that the entire footballing fraternity must learn to accept refereeing decisions.

“I can say it was okay because you cannot start giving excuses about football. Football is a game of winning, drawing or losing.

“You should expect anything as you play. I think the referee was okay to me, and I think after 90 minutes, the game is okay, it is a draw and we accept it.”
