The KCB coach feels his side can still produce more after downing Leopards in Friday's league encounter
KCB head coach Bernard Mwalala believes there is still room for improvement despite his side’s win 1-0 over AFC Leopards in their first match of the 2023/24 FKFPL season.
A Derrick Otanga goal was enough for KCB to beat AFC Leopards, piling misery on the Ingwe faithful and pressure on coach Tom Juma.
Mwalala got his KCB career off to a flier with three points but believes the side can still do better in their upcoming assignments.

FKFPL Returning KCB striker piles misery on 10-man AFC Leopards in dull encounter
Otanga netted the lone goal on his return to KCB as the Bankers had enough to edge ten-man AFC Leopards at Kasarani
“It has been a good game. AFC Leopards gave it a spirited fight. KCB also gave a spirited fight and in the end, we scored a goal from half a chance,” Mwalala said after the match.
“We managed to get all three points. It was not an easy match but at the end of the day, that is what is the most important thing.”

FOOTBALL AFC Leopards and Gor Mahia to each earn extra multi millions after agreeing separate Azam TV deal
Although every FKF PL club is guaranteed part of the Ksh 148 million a year deal by the broadcaster, the two Kenyan giant clubs are each set to earn more millions in a separate deal.
Quizzed about not playing in the opening round of fixtures due to Kakamega Homeboyz’s CAF Confederation Cup assignment, Mwalala said: “We never got to take part in a match during the first game of the season. I saw some good things and some things that we also need to fix based on the game."
“It is a work in progress. We will go back to the drawing board to improve. It is good we will be trying to improve these things after a win. It is not just about beating AFC leopards, but also winning the first match.”
During the match, defender Brian ‘Rio’ Ochieng was subbed off at half time, which is rare to see for the player who has been very resourceful for the bankers over the years, but Mwalala revealed that he suffered from a muscular injury.
“It was an injury. Rio got a muscle tear. The doctor will tell us the length of the injury. It was all an injury related substitution," he said.
KCB will face Kariobangi Sharks in the second match of the season on September 17.
