After joining the Blues from Manchester United, Jadon Sancho has revealed that he always admired the club growing up
New Chelsea signing Jadon Sancho has expressed his excitement at joining the Blues after completing a dramatic deadline-day move from Manchester United.
The 24-year-old winger secured a last-minute loan deal with Chelsea, with an obligation to make the move permanent next summer, following Raheem Sterling's departure to Arsenal on loan.
Sancho reports being inspired by Chelsea icons
The England international, who grew up in London, spoke about his happiness at joining the club he idolised as a youngster, describing Chelsea as “Iconic,” in his first interview with the club.
Sancho also revealed his love for Chelsea legends, saying, “My idols growing up were Didier Drogba and Frank Lampard, and now I have the opportunity to play for this club like them. It’s a great feeling.”
The 24-year-old winger’s delight at joining Chelsea not only sparks from moving to the same club as his idols but also the chance to revive his career after a disturbing time at Manchester United.
Sancho's move to Chelsea marks the end of a turbulent three-year stint with the Red Devils, where he struggled to find consistent form and had a public falling out with manager Erik ten Hag.
Sancho ready for Chelsea challenge
In addition to his admiration of Drogba and Lampard, Sancho also shared his excitement about working with Chelsea's manager, Enzo Maresca.
The former Manchester United star was particularly impressed with Maresca's style of play, saying, “I enjoy his style of play. The wingers, when they get on the ball, he loves them to go one versus one and be direct. We play a lot of one-twos with the 10s and the striker combination plays. It’s very attractive, and it’s a style that I play.”
Sancho, who had a brief loan spell at Borussia Dortmund last season, is eager to contribute to Chelsea's success and is ready for the challenges adding, “They’re signing me for a reason and to contribute to the team, and I’m ready to do that.”
Sancho will be looking to make his Chelsea debut in their upcoming Premier League match against Crystal Palace on Sunday, as he begins this new chapter in his career at Stamford Bridge.
