The proud Samuel Eto'o took to his Instagram to wish his son well and congratulate him on his debut in the matchday squad in Spain.

Legendary African footballer Samuel Eto'o has expressed immense pride and love for his son Etienne after the young striker was named in the first team matchday squad of Spanish club Rayo Vallecano over the weekend.

In a touching social media post, Eto'o, who is the president of the Cameroon Football Federation, congratulated his 22-year-old son on the milestone achievement.

Etienne, who shares his father's passion for the game, was an unused substitute as Rayo Vallecano took on Real Sociedad in La Liga on Sunday.

But for the proud Eto'o, the mere fact of seeing his son earn a first-team call-up, in a first division club, was worthy of celebration.

"I have the opportunity to tell you how proud I am of you," Eto'o wrote on Instagram. "When you opened up to life, and with the emerging maturity, I confided to you that my status as a father, with the authority and subsequent responsibilities, will never vary."

The former Barcelona and Inter Milan striker, who made a name as Africa’s biggest export in La Liga history, went on to impart valuable wisdom to Etienne in his message.

Eto'o who has been involved in various issues since he took reigns in Fecafoot also acknowledged the imperfections of family life but assured Etienne that he has the essential thing - a father's unwavering love and pride.

"Things will happen, son. If not today, it will be tomorrow, if not, it will be the day after tomorrow... They will be done. Receive all the strength of my Love," the football great concluded.
