‘I'm looking at the qualities’ - Super Eagles legend gives reason why Lookman is a great player
Nigerian legend Sunday Oliseh has explained why he considers Super Eagles star Ademola Lookman a great player.
Lookman kicks this off in Italy’s Serie A, continuing his fine form, scoring for Atalanta. The 27-year-old was made to dig deep by the VAR after two goals were ruled out.
Eventually, however, the in-form forward found a way as he rounded up Atalanta’s impressive 3-1 away win at Parma.
In Milan, Samuel Chukwueze’s solo goal during the international break for Nigeria failed to impress his manager at AC ahead of the big game against Juventus.
Chukwueze watched that goalless affair from the bench until the 84th minute when he was subbed on to enjoy a cameo.
It was a similar case for his compatriot Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, who watched on the bench for 85 minutes before he came off as a super-sup to score the winner in the 3-0 win against Bologna.
Over in the English Premier League, Eagles playmaker Iwobi netted a stunning goal for Fulham in their defeat, underlining his quality.
Iwobi’s screamer with his weaker foot was his third goal of the campaign but it turned out to be just a consolation at home as the Cottagers were devoured by Wolves.
Wilfred Ndidi played from start to finish but watched helplessly as former manager Enzo Maresca came, saw and conquered his former employers Leicester City with his new club Chelsea.
Ola Aina and Taiwo Awoniyi’s impressive run with Nottingham Forest witnessed a remarkable fall after Arsenal’s 3-0 win at the Emirates.
However, it was in Turkey where the biggest Nigerian headlines were made. While Victor Osimhen drew a blank for Galatasaray, his compatriot David Babajide stole the show, providing two brilliant assists for his team Rizespor.
The little-known 28-year-old delivered a creative masterclass after creating four chances and making two key passes alongside fellow Nigeria Ibrahim Olawoyin.
Elsewhere, David Okereke got on the scoresheet for Gaziantep FK, joining the likes of Lookman and Iwobi in finding the back of the net alongside Toluwase Arokodare, the former Naija Stars Abroad’s Baller of the Week, who scored his ninth of the season.
Also, it was a beautiful weekend for Super Falcons star Jennifer Echegini and in-form Ifeoma Onumonu as they hit the back of the net for PSG and Montpellier respectively.
Finally, with Victor Boniface missing in action, Nathan Tella came off the bench to help defender Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen return to winning ways with an emphatic 5-2 win against Heidenheim.
The 25-year-old Tella who replaced the poor Jeremy Frimpong picked up the assist for the fifth goal scored by Granit Xhaka.
In the German Regionalliga, it was the Uche Destiny Obiogumu show as FC Nurnberg and Aschaffenburg served a six-goal thriller after a 3-3 draw. The 20-year-old striker netted all three goals for Nurnberg.
Overall, it was an impressive showing from Nigerian talents plying their trade abroad, with several players stepping up to make an impact for their clubs. The future looks bright for the country's football exports.
