Naija Stars Abroad reviews that performance from Lookman and an unknown 23-year-old Nigeria and Super Eagles-eligible striker in Belgium.
Lookman solidified his position as the favourite for the African Player of the Year with an excellent display for his Serie A club Atalanta BC.
In a seven-goal thriller against Hellas Verona, the forward, who turned 27 recently, was involved in four of Atalanta’s six goals as they thrashed their visitors 6-1 to return to winning ways.
The Super Eagles forward not only scored two goals but also assisted two more goals, taking his tally to four goals and four assists in just six matches this season for the Europa League winners.
Following Lookman’s impressive display were two other Super Eagles stars, Victor Boniface and Alex Iwobi.
After his ghastly car crash the previous weekend, Boniface returned to Bayer Leverkusen in style to show why he remains the man to beat for the invincible champions in Germany.
The 23-year-old opened the scoring in the entertaining 2-2 draw at Werder Bremen, taking his tally to seven goals in eight matches across competitions.
Another Super Eagles star who found the net at the weekend as monitored by Naija Stars Abroad is the playmaker Iwobi.
Iwobi came back to haunt his former club Everton in the Premier League but like his compatriot Boniface, his fantastic goal was not enough to guarantee a win and three points on his return to Goodison Park.
At the King Power Stadium, Nottingham Forest was too good for Wilfred Ndidi’s Leicester City after a 3-1 win. That game featured two other Eagles stars, Taiwo Awoniyi and Ola Aina, who put on another solid performance for his Reds.
Meanwhile, elsewhere in the Abroad, little-known Chukwubuikem Ikwuemesi has emerged as the biggest challenger to Lookman for the Baller of the Week after his heroics in Belgium.
Ikwuemesi proved to be the hero after his impressive brace inspired OU Leuven to a rare away win at Sporting Charleroi, bringing to an end a run of five matches without a win in the Jupiler for the club.
The goals were the first and second of the season for the young forward who has now featured in 11 matches this season for the club in the league.
Other Naija Stars Abroad
For the rest of the Naija Stars Abroad, it was quiet throughout with Samuel Chukwueze and Victor Osimhen not in action.
While Chukwueze's game against Bologna with Milan was postponed, Osimhen’s Galatasaray will be in action in the Super Lig on Monday night.
