FKFPL Nairobi City Stars pile more misery on AFC Leopards in five goal thriller

City Stars dominate Ingwe with a tactical masterclass, showcasing airtight defense and sharpshooting to secure a commanding victory.

Nairobi City Stars edged AFC Leopards 3-2 in a Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) match staged at the Moi International Sports Centre Kasarani on Saturday afternoon.

Nicholas Muyoti filled in the void left by the suspended Kelvin Etemesi, bringing in Andrew Kisilu as his replacement, and starting Elvis Ochoro between the posts as Edwin Mukolwe was benched.

Edwin Buliba, Sosthenes Idah, Elvis Noor, Dennis Oalo, and Mohamed Ali also failed to make it to the line-up following the team's 2-1 loss to Murang'a Seal in a mid-week clash.

Tomas Trucha named an unchanged Ingwe starting XI for the clash, with the exception of Washington Munene and Cliff Nyakeya, who were also absent from the previous match where they secured a 1-0 victory against Nzoia Sugar away.

Leopards started brightly with Jaffari Owiti testing Elvis Ochoro in the tenth minute and Simba Wa Nairobi's keeper made a superb save to keep his side in the game.

Clifton Miheso set up Victor Omune, who controlled the ball well and he unleashed a shot that went inches away from the goalmouth.

City Stars were able to create chances and they should have broken the deadlock minutes later when Andrew Kisilu was sent through on goal, but somehow the forward placed his effort right to the arms of goalkeeper Humphrey Katasi.

Shortly after being awarded a free-kick outside the area, City Stars' Vincent Otieno sent the ball past the Leopards' wall and beyond a well-beaten Katasi to secure a 1-0 lead.

In the 37th minute, City Stars nearly conceded following a miscommunication between Timothy Muganda and Wycliffe Omondi but Brian Yakhama hit the wrong side of the net.

Yakhama was all over the place giving the hosts a torrid time and he combined with Clifton Miheso and Kevin Kimani but Ochoro went down to make a good save.

City Stars took the game to Ingwe toward the end of the first half but Samuel Kapen headed wide much to the relief of the Ingwe technical team as the Simba wa Nairobi went to the halftime break leading 1-0.

Trucha gave what was a tough half-time talk during the break as his charges came back guns blazing after the restart.

The Czech gaffer introduced Victor Otieno, Emmanuel Lwangu and Ronald Sichenje in place of Miheso, Kevin Kimani, and Jaffari Owiti respectively as Leopards looked for an equalizer.

Sichenje came close to scoring an equalizer inside the opening five minutes of the second half as his attempted shot went over the bar with Ochoro beaten hands down.

That did not stop Nicholas Muyoti's men from finding the second in the 55th minute when they capitalized from a defensive mix-up with Samuel Kapen firing past Katasi.

Leopards defense was exposed again in the 62nd minute and it was Vincent Owino who for the second time punished the visitors to make it 3-0.

Ingwe were wasteful in front of goal as Victor Otieno found Yakhama with a header, but the latter fired wide of the target without troubling Ochoro in City Stars' goal.

Trucha’s men found a consolation in the 84th minute when Musa Oundo was brought down inside the area and Brian Yakhama slotted the penalty past Ochoro to make it 3-1.

Leopards continued to create chances and they were awarded a free-kick in a promising area in the closing stages of the game.

Kayci Odhiambo the stepped up and placed his effort from subsequent free-kick wide of the target as City Sars survived a scare.

Second-half substitute Victor Otieno managed to score the second goal for Leopards five minutes later, but City Stars stood firm at the back and ultimately, they won 3-2 on the afternoon.
