Napoli have picked up the first of many end-of-season awards as head coach Luciano Spalletti is named the Serie A Manager of the Year
Napoli head coach Luciano Spalletti has been named Serie A coach of the year for the 2022/23 season following a successful campaign where he led Napoli to their first Scudetto title in 33 years.
Napoli manager carts away Manager of the Year award
The 64-year-old manager pulled off a minor miracle with Napoli in the league, beating the likes of AC Milan, Inter, AS Roma, and Juve to the Serie A title, playing some scintillating football on the way, and has been rewarded for his superb coaching with the end-of-season award.
He was congratulated on the achievement by Lega Serie A chief Luigi De Siervo who said, “Luciano Spalletti’s season in charge of Napoli has been simply extraordinary.
“The Azzurri made their mark from day one not just for their results, but also the spectacular style of football, which was appreciated on the international stage too.”
Spalletti ends 2022/23 season on a high
Spalletti became only the second Napoli manager to claim the award, and the first since Maurizio Sarri, who won the Manager of the Year prize in 2017.
It is Spalletti’s third Serie A Manager of the Year win after he was also awarded the accolade in back-to-back seasons in 2006 and 2007.
Following an incredible campaign with Napoli, Spalletti has confirmed that he will be taking a sabbatical from management and will not be in charge of the Partenopei when they try to defend their Serie A title in the 2023/24 season.
