The problems facing Napoli appear to be growing after robbers attacked one of their players after their most recent Serie A match
Napoli's new signing, David Neres, experienced a terrifying ordeal on Saturday night when he was robbed at gunpoint following the team's 2-1 victory over Parma at the Stadio Maradona.
The club’s new signing was returning to his hotel with his family, just hours after helping his team secure the win when he was accosted by assailants.
David Neres robbed outside Napoli stadium
Neres, who joined Napoli from Benfica in a €28 million transfer in the summer window, was heading to the Grand Hotel Parker’s with his wife and daughter when the incident took place outside the Partenopei’s stadium.
According to reports from Calciomercato.com, the Brazilian winger was approached by two men on a motorcycle who smashed his car and demanded his valuables at gunpoint. The thieves managed to steal Neres' Rolex watch before fleeing the scene.
The incident left Neres and his family visibly shaken. Due to the traumatic experience, the winger did not stop to sign autographs for fans who had gathered outside the hotel to greet him.
Neres' bright start at Napoli overshadowed by robbery
Neres' wife, Kira Winona, took to Instagram to apologise on his behalf, explaining the situation to concerned fans, saying, “David would like to say sorry to the fans who were waiting outside for him.
“While trying to leave the stadium after the game, two men on a motorcycle smashed the car and robbed him at gunpoint.”
Neres' has been impressive since joining Napoli this summer, providing two assists in the Partenopei’s opening two games of the season, including one for the winning goal in the 2-1 victory against Parma.
However, the shocking robbery has cast a shadow over his promising start in Naples, threatening to ruin his new start with Napoli.
