The Victor Osimhen saga has dragged on throughout the summer transfer window

Napoli head coach Antonio Conte has expressed his frustration over the constant questions about the club’s transfer dealings, particularly surrounding the situation with star striker Victor Osimhen.

During a pre-match press conference on Friday, ahead of Napoli's Serie A clash with Bologna, Conte made it clear that he was tired of discussing the ongoing centre-forward dilemma.

When asked if he anticipated the current situation concerning the team’s centre-forward position when he first took over at Napoli, the Italian gaffer lost his cool and responded with visible irritation, stating that he would no longer entertain questions about Napoli’s transfer activities.

Conte recalled a previous press conference following Napoli’s 3-0 defeat to Verona, where the majority of questions revolved around transfers rather than the game itself, saying, “Let’s get straight to the point. Last week, we had a press conference where we only spoke about the transfer market. I received zero questions about Verona, maybe one, but we didn’t talk about football and what happened.”

He added that he would rather answer questions about the Partenopei’s upcoming Serie A fixture against Bologna, concluding his rant by saying, “I want to talk about Bologna. As you know, it’s a big match, you know what they did last year. Let’s put all our focus on the game, it’s more important to me.”

Osimhen’s future at Napoli still unresolved

Despite knowing that Osimhen was keen on leaving Napoli this summer, the Nigerian striker remains with the club, with only one week of the transfer window left as the club struggle to find an able suitor for the Super Eagles star.

Osimhen has been close to Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea, and Arsenal at different times during the summer transfer window but has been unable to complete a deal to sign for any of these clubs, leaving him stuck at Napoli.

Meanwhile, the Partenopei have already replaced Osimhen by signing Romelu Lukaku from Chelsea, putting the Super Eagles star’s future in doubt.

Chelsea are currently in talks to sign Osimhen, but Napoli are yet to give the all-clear for a transfer, although the striker would be eager to join the Blues in the Premier League.
