Nigeria's Wilfred Ndidi was unable to help his Leicester City side avoid defeat against Chelsea

Despite a moment of madness from Noni Madueke that saw the England international block a certain goal from his teammate Cole Palmer, Chelsea were able to seal their first win in three Premier League games with a 2-1 result against Leicester City.

The Blues had Senegalese forward Nicholas Jackson and Argentine playmaker Enzo Fernandez to thank for the victory, thanks to a goal in each half.

Jackson scored the opening goal for Chelsea, assisted by Fernandez, who later turned scorer for the Blues’ second goal against Leicester City.

Jordan Ayew’s late penalty for Leicester City turned out to be only a consilation as the Blues carted all three points back to Stamford Bridge.

How it happened

The Blues dominated early possession, with Joao Felix and Noni Madueke impressing, while Leicester suffered an early setback when Harry Winks was replaced by Oliver Skipp due to injury.

Nicolas Jackson opened the scoring in the 15th minute with a clever flick after linking up with Enzo Fernandez.

Leicester City were lucky not to go down to 10 men after Wilfred Ndidi's tackle on Cole Palmer required a VAR review, which ended positively for the Nigerian, who only saw yellow despite his reckless challenge.

Even with Chelsea's near total dominance, Leicester threatened on the counter, with Casey McAteer and Ndidi narrowly missing opportunities to equalise.

Chelsea’s Madueke saw a goal disallowed for offside, and Cole Palmer missed a golden chance to extend their lead, after seeing his goal-bound effort blocked by Madueke himself.

Leicester started the second half brightly but struggled to capitalise on their momentum. Chelsea found their decisive second goal in the 75th minute when Enzo Fernandez converted a rebound from Jackson’s header.

Leicester had a penalty shout late on when Stephy Mavididi went down under Wesley Fofana’s challenge, but VAR upheld the referee’s decision.

In stoppage time, Leicester pulled one back through Jordan Ayew’s penalty following a clear Chelsea foul in the box. However, their late surge wasn’t enough.
