They are two places adrift of runners-up BUL FC (20 games) and two ahead of fourth-placed Vipers SC, who have played 18 games.

Joseph Dhata continued his superb as he netted from the spot for NEC's first goal before Allan Mugalu doubled their tally just before halftime.

On the other hand, Isaac Mpagi Kajubi scored Maroons' consolation late in the game, but the hosts held on for all points on the evening.

Meanwhile, Maroons extended their recent abysmal run that has had them fail to master a victory in the last six UPL matches.

In that spell, they have suffered defeat on three occasions, picking a point in as many games.

Maroons now sit sixth on the 16-team log with 31 points in 21 matches.

While Maroons will host the equally limping Express FC in their next match on March 28, a day later, NEC will visit Wakiso Giants FC at the Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium.
