Chelsea trumped Mexican opposition to grab their first win in pre-season.

Chelsea grabbed their first win of the Enzo Maresca era with a convincing 3-0 victory over Mexican side Club America in their third pre-season friendly.

The Blues were coming off the back of two underwhelming results in friendly games. They were held to a 2-2 draw by League One side Wrexham and were soundly beaten 4-1 by Scottish champions Celtic

In the clash against Club America at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, however, they looked a much-improved side and could have even scored more than the three they got.

Key match actions

Chelsea raced to the lead as early as the second minute of the game from a Christopher Nkunku penalty. Romeo Lavia was brought down in the box by a reckless challenge, and with Cole Palmer still off on holiday, Nkuku assumed penalty responsibilities and dispatched his attempt calmly.

New signing Marc Guiu made it two in the 21st minute. He timed his movement excellently in the near post and connected with a Kiernan Drewsbury-Hall cross to head Chelsea further ahead.

The Blues had a glut of chances to compound their opposition's woes, but they were forgiving, with Drewsbury-Hall being the biggest culprit.

They eventually got the third in the 79th minute from another penalty. Noni Madueke stepped up and fired past Rodolfo Cota.

Chelsea are set to face Premier League rivals Manchester City in their next pre-season game on August 3rd. The Cityzens are still in search of their first win in pre-season.
