Newcastle United seeks historic win as they face Manchester United at St James' Park after recent Champions League setbacks.

Newcastle United and Manchester United are poised to go head-to-head in a highly-anticipated Premier League clash happening at St James' Park on Saturday night.

Both teams are keen to rebound from recent disappointments in the Champions League, and the stage is set for an intense battle with kickoff scheduled for 11 pm East African Time.

Newcastle United's heartbreak against Paris Saint-Germain in a 1-1 draw still lingers, as they were on the brink of a historic European victory.

A controversial handball decision denied them the win, and it left fans and pundits fuming.

Despite the setback, Newcastle will look to return to their winning ways at home, where they have been formidable, securing victory in their last five Premier League home games.

On the other hand, Manchester United experienced a shocking collapse against Galatasaray, squandering a 3-1 lead in a 3-3 draw. This latest Champions League disappointment has left them on the brink of elimination from their group.

However, in the Premier League, they have been on an upward trajectory, with three consecutive wins and clean sheets to boot.

Interestingly, Newcastle has had the upper hand in their recent encounters with Manchester United, winning their last two fixtures.

The hosts will aim to make it three successive wins over the Red Devils for the first time in over a century.

Newcastle's injury list remains lengthy, with key players like Sean Longstaff, Jacob Murphy, Joe Willock, Matt Targett, Javier Manquillo, Sven Botman, Harvey Barnes, Elliot Anderson, Callum Wilson, and Dan Burn sidelined.

Despite the challenges, Newcastle boss Eddie Howe is likely to field a similar starting lineup to the one that faced PSG, including 17-year-old sensation Lewis Miley, who impressed in Paris.

Manchester United, too, faces injury woes, with several key players like Lisandro Martinez, Casemiro, Mason Mount, Jonny Evans, Christian Eriksen, Amad Diallo, and Tyrell Malacia sidelined and unavailable for selection.

However, they will welcome back Marcus Rashford from suspension, providing a boost to their attacking options. Manager Erik Ten Hag stressed the need to manage player loads and maintain freshness.

With both teams hungry for redemption and a place in the top echelons of the Premier League at stake, Saturday's showdown promises to be a thrilling encounter.

Both managers acknowledge the significance of this clash. Eddie Howe expects a closely contested match and emphasizes the importance of being at their best to secure a victory, especially with the advantage of playing at home.

"I think these games against the bigger clubs are always very difficult and always decided by fine margins," Howe stated. "In big moments you are looking for big players to step up and potentially win you the game."

Erik ten Hag, the Manchester United manager, recognizes the need to manage player load and maintain freshness, hinting at potential squad rotations.

"We have many options but we have to manage the load of the players," Erik said at his press conference to preview the weekend action. "It is also about freshness as well," he said.

"Mason Mount is, today, returning on the [training] pitch, but I don't know how long it will take until he returns [to play]. I can't say at this moment."

The 2023/2023 season is filled with ups and downs and the clash promises to be another chapter in the storied history of these two Premier League giants.
