The former Serie A star is believed to have made at least four bets on Newcastle matches, including games where he played
Italian midfielder Sandro Tonali received a suspended two-month ban for betting on his own team four times.
The Newcastle man received the suspended two-month ban from football after England's FA found him guilty of breaching its betting rules
Details of Tonali’s two-month ban
Tonali was given a two-month suspended ban that would only begin to take effect in 2023/24, meaning he would be able to partake in matches at the end of the 10-month ban that he is currently serving.
Tonali avoided an extension of his global 10-month ban which he received as part of an investigation by Italy’s FIGC into players’ betting.
An independent FA regulatory commission has also awarded the midfielder a £20,000 fine, allowing him to return on August 27 when his punishment for betting on Italian matches expires.
Newcastle matches Tonali bet on
As part of the investigation into Tonali’s gambling activity, it was revealed that the Italian midfielder bet on more than 50 matches following his summer move to Newcastle, including four times where he bet on the Magpies to win.
Tonali reportedly bet on Newcastle to win when they faced Brighton or Burnley, as well as Brentford and West Ham. He also bet during his team's 1-0 Carabao Cup victory over Manchester City, a match which he played.
