Neymar sides Saudi Pro League in debate with Ligue 1
Despite his famous spell with PSG in Ligue 1, Neymar wasted no time in making his support for the Saudi Pro League known when questioned about the current quality of bothh leagues.
In a recent interview, the Al Hilal star was asked to touch on the debate between the Saudi Pro League and the LIgue 1 started by Ronaldo.
The former Barcelona star told CNN, “I agree with Cristiano. Today, I think the Saudi League is above Ligue 1”.
The level of the Saudi Pro League is increasing, the players are also better. But Ligue 1 has its strengths. It's a very high level championship. I know it well”.
Neymar’s troubled time in France
The Brazilian record-breaker was right to say he knew Ligue 1 well after spending six years with French giants PSG, where he won five league titles.
Despite the apparent success, Neymar’s time in France was largely frustrating for both the Brazilian and PSG, as he suffered innumerable injuries that meant he only played up to 20 league matches on three occasions.
Although he was clearly one of the most talented players in the world at the time, he was never consistent enough to nail down a legacy in France and eventually fell out with PSG fans before his move to Al Hilal.
While with Al Hilal, Neymar’s injury woes have not eased up as the forward has been out of the team for the majority of his spell in Saudi Arabia after suffering an ACL tear in his first season.
