NFF's allocation in the 2023 Nigerian Budget is only 0.66% of the budgeted sum for the Sport Ministry.
Following the passing of the appropriation act by the National Assembly, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is expected to receive N1.282 billion from the country's 2023 budget.
The presidency confirmed on January 3 that President Muhammadu Buhari had signed Nigeria’s 2023 budget into law, with the budget totalling N21.83 trillion.
Of this N21.83 trillion, N193,418,082,888 (N193.4 billion) is earmarked for Nigeria's Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development.
Sports Ministry to spend N1.48 billion on refreshments, others
According to the documents sourced from the Budget Office of the Federation, and first reported by Leadership Sports, the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development is expected to spend N1.480 billion on refreshments, settlement of honorarium, sitting allowances, publicity, welfare packages for top personalities, as well as other miscellaneous.
Of the total N193.4 billion, N2.008 billion has been mapped out for total personnel cost, while the overhead cost is summed at a total of N2.232 billion. The total capital cost stands at N4.664 billion.
The documents also revealed that all of these, amounting to N8.906 billion exclude four agencies under the control of the Sports Ministry.
A further breakdown revealed that N26 million was allocated to refreshments/meals, N140.66 million for welfare packages, N20.579 million for honorarium and sitting allowances, N2.334 million for postage and courier services, N4.704 million for medical, N10.209 million for subscription to professional bodies and N71.698 million for monitoring activities and follow-up.

Of the sports ministry's total N193.4 billion, Nigeria's football governing body - the biggest sports federation in the country - is entitled to 0.66% of the allocation.
N153 million has been mapped out for total personnel cost, with the overhead cost summed at the same amount. The total capital cost stands at N306 million.
