Kebbi United BSC defeated 2021 champs Kebbi BSC 7-6
The final stage of the 2023 Nigeria Beach Soccer League (NBSL) kicked off in Birnin Kebbi, the capital of Kebbi State, with three matches.
The standout game of the day featured two teams from Kebbi State, and it was full of action as Kebbi United BSC defeated 2021 champs Kebbi BSC 7-6.
The governor of Kebbi State, who could be seen attending the game in person with his deputy, secretary to the state government Senator Umar Abubakar Tafida, and a few recently appointed commissioners.
With the help of Hassan Abdullahi's hat-trick, Kebbi United quickly took the lead 3-2 after the first period.
Kebbi United put the game beyond reasonable doubt with a 7-2 lead after the second period which fueled a need for a comeback from the Kebbi Fishers.
Four goals in the third period weren't enough as Kebbi United earned a 7-6 win.
The win ended Kebbi BSC six-match unbeaten run and opened up the title challenge.
After defeating Kebbi United 4-2 in the morning game, Nmanko Patigi BSC earlier reduced the deficit at the top of the standings to one point.
The Kwara-based team won thanks to a brace from the league's leading scorer, Jamiu Kunle, as well as goals from Ogunlana Seun and Bashir Taiwo.
For Kebbi United BSC, Hamza Abubakar and Abdulmajid Maji cut the deficit.
Elsewhere, Kada BSC defeated Smart City BSC 3-0.
