The Super Eagles of Nigeria battled to a draw with the Benin Republic, maintaining the top position in the group.

Going into the game against Benin, Nigeria needed only one point to qualify for the 2025 AFCON tournament.

The Super Eagles had to battle until late in the game to secure a 1-1 draw, with Victor Osimhen scoring the equaliser after missing a great chance in the first half.

The three-time African champions secured qualification for next year's AFCON tournament following Rwanda’s loss to Libya.

We wasted our chances - Gernot Rohr

Reacting after the game, Rohr said his Benin Republic team was unfortunate not to win the closely contested game.

“It was a fair result. But we were unlucky, because we had the better chances and organization to win the game.

“Nigeria is not a team that is easy to beat. But if we had taken the chances we had with scores at 1-0, maybe the result would have been different,” Rohr said.
