The Super Falcons showed their superiority with a dominant performance
The Super Falcons clinched an emphatic 4-1 win over Algeria’s Female Fennecs, sealing a dominant 6-1 aggregate scoreline in their double header friendly game.
Folashade Ijamilusi was the star of the night, delivering a dazzling hat-trick, while Tenerife forward Gift Monday chipped in with a goal to round off a commanding performance.
How it happened
Building on their first-leg performance, the Falcons wasted no time asserting control. Ijamilusi struck first in the 9th minute, pouncing on a rebound from Gift Monday’s header off Blessing Ilivieda’s corner to put Nigeria ahead.
Eight minutes later, she found the net again, capitalising on a powerful shot from Blessing Osigwe that struck the bar, thanks to a precise pass from Rasheedat Ajibade.
Despite Nigeria's overwhelming pressure, Algeria clawed one back in the 39th minute. Substitute Wassila Alouache slotted in a loose ball after a fumble by Nigerian goalie Udoka Unachukwu, momentarily halting the Super Falcons' momentum.
However, the Super Falcons responded quickly. Just before halftime, Gift Monday connected with a pinpoint corner, outjumping Algeria's Salah Amel to restore Nigeria’s two-goal cushion.
Coach Justin Madugu’s strategic second-half substitutions, including Chioma Olise and Janet Akekoromewei, kept the Falcons’ pace high. In the 86th minute, Ijamilusi sealed her hat-trick, tapping in Shukurat Oladipo’s cross after an Algerian defensive error.
Substitute Monle Omini capped off the victory, pulling off a critical save in added time to deny Algeria a consolation goal.
With mostly home-based talent, the Super Falcons’ resounding victory in interim manager Justin Madugu’s second match in charge showed the Nigeria’s squad depth and ambition on the road to Paris.
