Kelechi Iheanacho came off the bench to score a superb goal but it was not enough as the Super Eagles drew 2-2 with Saudi Arabia.
Nigeria's Super Eagles made tough work of Saudi Arabia, failing to take their chances and settling for a 2-2 draw.
How it happened
Nigeria started the game on the front foot, dominating proceedings but failing to find any real cutting edge in the final third.
After 15 minutes, Ademola Lookman made an excellent run, a fine cross but Osimhen failed to keep his header down.
Just before halftime, Osimhen had a glorious chance but scraped the crossbar with a fine effort.
By the start of the second half, Saudi Arabia had started to grow into game, passing the ball around with a lot of confidence and they were duly rewarded.
A freekick from Salman Al Faraj was pushed into the goal by Nigeria's Francis Uzoho. An embarrassing moment for the Super Eagles goalkeeper.
The Super Eagles responded quickly, as Moses Simon, a second-half substitute squared the ball for Victor Boniface to slide home, via a deflection.
The Nigeria coach Jose Peseiro made a raft of changes, and one of them, Kelechi Iheanacho turned the game around, scoring a brilliant goal from the edge of the box.
However, with the last kick of the game, Mohammed Kanno scored a freekick past the helpless Uzoho to deny Nigeria victory.
