Finidi George now has 20 of 23 players in the Super Eagles camp in Uyo ahead of the all-important FIFA WCQ clash against South Africa.

As reported by Pulse Sports Nigeria, the Super Eagles' preparations for the upcoming matches were thrown into disarray due to a nationwide strike that grounded all domestic flights across the country.

This left key players such as Ademola Lookman, Alex Iwobi, and Maduka Okoye stranded at airports, unable to connect to the team's base in Uyo before the crucial fixtures against South Africa on June 7th and Benin Republic on June 10th.

The team's Instagram page, however, has confirmed that five players, including Paul Onuachu and Calvin Bassey, have now arrived in Uyo, taking the total number of players in camp to 20.

The players still expected to join the squad are Ademola Lookman, who was in action for Atalanta over the weekend, Alex Iwobi, who has been on a break since May, and returning goalkeeper Maduka Okoye.

Despite the disruptions, Finidi George will be relieved to have the majority of his squad together as he plots a crucial victory against South Africa to boost Nigeria's chances of reaching the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

The Super Eagles currently sit third in their qualifying group and will be looking to pick up maximum points from these two must-win clashes to climb up the table and strengthen their position in the race for a World Cup spot.

With the squad now taking shape, Finidi George and his team will be hoping to overcome the travel challenges and prepare effectively for the battles ahead.

Finidi's Super Eagles will look to revive what looks like a fading FIFA World Cup hope after picking just two points from a possible six so far in the qualifiers.
