Nigeria win, South Africans 'cry' - Reactions as CAF awards Super Eagles 3 points after Libya mess

South Africans have taken to social media to express their dissatisfaction with the CAF verdict.

Following the decision by the Confederations of African Football (CAF) to award Nigeria's Super Eagles three points and three goals for their cancelled AFCON 2025 qualifying match against Libya, South Africans have started to 'cry' that the ruling is not a good one.

Pulse Sports reported Super Eagles were held in a 20-hour hostage situation at Al-Abraq Airport which made the players and officials return to Nigeria.

The match, which was originally set for October 15 in Benghazi, faced major logistical problems when the Nigerian team's flight was unexpectedly diverted, landing them at a distant airport.

Upon arrival, they were detained for nearly a full day without sufficient food or water, sparking widespread outrage from Nigerian officials and fans.

CAF awards Nigeria 3 points, 3 Goals

Meanwhile, CAF announced a decision following the Libya Football Federation's violation of several regulations concerning the treatment of the Nigerian team.

CAF confirmed that Nigeria has been awarded three points and three goals. As a result of the verdict, Nigeria is now on 10 points from four matches, four points better than second-placed Benin Republic, while Rwanda has five points.
