Tolu and Sor help Genk soar
Beershot, the hosts on the day, drew first blood when Ewan Henderson finished off a sweeping team move to send the Olympisch Stadion rocking.
Genk's dynamic Nigerian winger, Sor, helped them get back in the game six minutes later when he won a penalty, which Jarne Steuckers finished expertly. Just on the half-hour mark, the 22-year-old Belgian set up Arokodare for his first goal of the night to give Genk a 2-1 lead. Carlos Cuesta added one more for the visitors before the break and Thorsten Fink's side headed into the break with a healthy lead.
Beershot roared out the gate at the start of the second-half and although they failed to score with that early pressure, they managed to half the deficit around the hour mark, thanks to a Simion Michez strike.
The hosts threatened to restore parity, but Sor combined expertly with his compatriot Arokodare to take the contest further away from Beershot. Genk looked set to coast home, but Dirk Kuijt's side refused to go down without a fight.
Their effort earned them a penalty, but Welat Cagro, who took up responsibility, rocked the crossbar with his effort. However, it was not enough to dampen their morale, as they made it 4-3 in the 87th minute. But it was a little too late to inspire a comeback, and Arokodare’s strike turned out to be the winner.
