NFF back to drawing board
After months of searching, following Finidi George's resignation and a slew of candidates passed over, the Nigerian Football Federation finally announced an unexciting option for the Super Eagles coaching role, but an option still, and just in time for the upcoming internationals: German manager Bruno Labbadia.
Pulse Sports reported today that despite announcing the former Wolfsburg coach as the next Super Eagles boss, the NFF were yet to complete the paperwork behind that deal.
Moments later, an embarrassing report revealed that those talks have now broken down. The NFF, via their official announcement, confirmed the murmurs. They explained that the reason for the breakdown in negotiations was due to German tax laws that required a certain percentage of Labbadia’s earnings paid back to his home country. The federation claimed that they had to cover the entirety of said tax remittance.
Eguaveon to fill the role
With the deal having broken down, the football governing body announced that Eguaveon, who has coached the Super Eagles on three separate stints, twice as a caretaker/interim, will reprise the role once more in the coming international break.
The Super Eagles begin their bid for Morocco 2025 next month when they play Benin Republic and Rwanda on September 7th and 10th, respectively, in their first set of group games.
