Nigerian stars blast CAF for not providing VAR following Lookman’s disallowed goal against Libya

Nigerian internationals Desire Oparanozie and Kenneth Omeruo have expressed their dissatisfaction with CAF officials for disallowing Ademola Lookman's goal against Libya on Friday.

Nigeria defeated Libya's Mediterranean Knights by a narrow 1-0 victory at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo.

A beautiful strike from Fisayo Dele-Bashiru inside the box late in the game sealed the win for the Super Eagles.

However, Lookman was denied a goal during the game by the linesman, who raised his flag for offside.

Former Super Falcons strikers Oparanozie and Omeruo were taken aback by Lookman's disallowed goal and wondered why a goal with no damage would be called off.

Oparanozie wrote on X (formerly Twitter), “No VAR in Uyo? There’s no dent on Lookman’s goal."

She also replied to someone in the comment section, “Poor officiating.”

Omeruo was also unimpressed with the Malawian officiating on Instagram, “CAF do better. Make VAR available. Lookman goal just got cancelled.”

In the 83rd minute, Lookman appeared to have given Nigeria the lead with a brilliantly executed strike, but the score remained tied.

The Atalanta winger and Samuel Chukwueze of AC Milan played one-two passes before the latter skilfully slotted the ball past Murad Al Wuheeshi, the custodian for Libya.

However, lineman Clemence Kanduku and Malawian referee Godfrey Philip Nkhakananga incorrectly called the strike-off for offside.

Super Eagles will now take a trip to Libya for the second leg of the clash as they look to seal their AFCON qualifiers.
