Balogun's experiences with the Nigerian national team have undoubtedly shaped his approach to football and helped him handle the pressure and scrutiny.

Leon Balogun has revealed how his experiences with the Nigerian national team helped him adapt to the intense pressure at Rangers.

The Super Eagles defender noted that the demanding atmosphere in Nigerian football, especially during matches, prepared him for the high expectations at Ibrox.

"Playing for the Nigerian national team prepared me because believe me or not, they probably have just as much expectation as our supporters," Balogun told the Daily Record.

He recounted a specific incident where the Nigerian team bus was attacked by angry fans after a disappointing result.

Recall that the Super Eagles bus was attacked by fans in Asaba, Delta state after they played 4-4 against Sierra Leone at the  Samuel Ogbemudia stadium during the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

"We were winning 4-1 good for me as I came off after 60 minutes and we ended the game 4-4. And on the way back to the hotel, some of the security staff said, ‘Don’t sit next to the windows’.

"Some players closed the curtains and then five minutes into the drive, you turn the corner and they threw stones at the bus, our fans," Balogun shared.

He added, "The expectation of Nigeria was always really, really high. So I’ve met something like it before, and I think that helped me personally."

Balogun's experiences with the Nigerian national team have undoubtedly shaped his approach to football and helped him handle the pressure and scrutiny that comes with playing for a club like Rangers.
