Nigeria’s Edo Queens to earn N260 million for participating in CAF Women’s Champions League

Edo Queens aim to make history by becoming the first Nigerian team to reach the final, following Rivers Angels' participation in 2021 and Bayelsa Queens' in 2022.

Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL) champions Edo Queens will earn nothing less than two hundred and sixty million Naira (150,000 dollars) for participating in the 2024 CAF Women’s Champions League.

Each of the eight African women's football clubs participating in the CAF Women’s Champions League Morocco 2024 will receive a minimum of USD 150,000 in prize money.

CAF has announced that the Women's Champions League total prize pool for the 24/25 season has risen by 52% to $2,350,000 (N4,077,250,000 billion).

  • Runner up: USD 400 000
  • 3rd Place: USD 350 000
  • 4th Place: USD 300 000
  • 3rd of the Group: USD 200 000 each
  • 4th of the Group: USD 150 000 each

Edo Queens to earn 260 million

Edo Queens will be aiming to earn more than 260 million when they begin actions in their maiden CAF Champions League campaign.

The Benin Arsenals qualified for this year's edition after winning the WAFU B qualifiers, and they will begin their campaign in Group B against fellow debutantes Central Bank of Ethiopia (CBE) on November 10.

Edo Queens will also square up against first-timers FC Masar of Egypt three days later before tackling title holders Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa on November 16.

NWFL backs Edo Queens’ historic quest at the 2024 CAF Women’s Champions League

Meanwhile, the NWFL Board has fully declared support for Edo Queens as they gear up for the CAF Women’s Champions League in Morocco, starting November 9, 2024.

In a statement on Thursday, NWFL Chairperson Nkechi Obi expressed her confidence in the team’s ability to represent Nigeria with excellence. She said:

“Edo Queens’ journey to this prestigious stage is a testament to their hard work and resilience. As they take on Africa’s best clubs, we are offering our unwavering support and belief in their potential to achieve historic success.”

The NWFL Board pledged its support for WAFU-B champions Edo Queens and encouraged the players to face each match with pride, determination, and unity.

The Board also reaffirmed its confidence that Edo Queens will demonstrate the strength and talent of Nigerian football on the continental stage.

“As you face Africa’s elite, remember you carry the dreams of Nigerian women’s football with you. We are proud to stand behind you and are confident you will make Nigeria shine,” the chairperson stated.

Rivers Angels represented Nigeria in 2021 and Bayelsa Queens in 2022, Edo Queens now set their sights on history, aiming to become the first Nigerian side to reach the final.
