Super Eagles stars back Eric Chelle to lead Nigeria to 2026 World Cup
Two Super Eagles stars are confident Eric Chelle will qualify Nigeria for the 2026 World Cup.
During his unveiling on Monday, NFF President Ibrahim Musa Gusau confirmed that Chelle would take on a supervisory role with the Super Eagles B, while the coaching trio of Daniel Ogunmodede, Fidelis Ilechukwu, and Olatunji Baruwa, who successfully qualified the team for the African Nations Championship (CHAN), will continue to manage the team's preparations and participation in the tournament.
Although the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has postponed the competition originally scheduled for next month until summer, the draw for the final tournament of the 8th African Nations Championship is set to take place in Nairobi, Kenya, on Wednesday evening.
Dayo Enebi Achor, the Team Administrator for the Super Eagles, is already in Nairobi ahead of the draw ceremony, which will be held at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre at 6 PM Nigeria time.
The draw will feature a total of 19 countries, including joint-hosts Tanzania, Kenya, and Uganda, as well as Nigeria, Morocco, Guinea, Senegal, Mauritania, Burkina Faso, Central African Republic, Algeria, Niger Republic, Congo, Sudan, Rwanda, Democratic Republic of Congo, Zambia, Angola, and Madagascar.
Chelle's appointment comes during a crucial time for Nigerian football as he prepares to lead the Super Eagles through their upcoming World Cup qualifiers. His experience and leadership will be key as he aims to revitalise a team that has faced challenges in recent times under different managers.
